Pope Simmons
Policy and Communications Director

Pope Simmons returned home to Charleston to serve as Family Corps’  Policy and Communications Director after spending 20 plus years as an advocate for social justice in Washington, DC.  As the Senior Vice President of Government Relations for the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare for more than 10 years,  Pope secured protections and federal funding for access to comprehensive services for individuals with mental health and addictive disorders .  During this period he was elected Chair of the Steering Committee of the Mental Health Liaison Group, an organization representing the range of  professional Guilds, public and private providers, inpatient and outpatient facilities, as well as family and consumer advocacy groups.

More recently, Pope served for six years as the the Chair of the National Hopeline Network, which formerly operated 1-800-SUICIDE.  In addition to securing access to suicide prevention services, Pope helped raise awareness through a relationship with PostSecret, the largest online public arts project, as well as through Indie Rock Tours.   A Charleston native, Pope attended Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston. 

Wilson Swinton

Wilson graduated from Charles A. Brown High School in Charleston, SC. He served in the US Army for 6 years after which he received Honorable Discharge. As a Veteran, Wilson graduated from Trident Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Management. Wilson has many years of experience working in the child care profession which makes him an invaluable asset to the FamilyCorps team. He is now currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Child Development from Trident Technical College.

Maggie Burghoff

Maggie has spent her entire career in the accounting field, but has spent the last 10 years specializing in bookkeeping for non-profits.   In her spare time, Maggie enjoys time with her dog, Gracie, playing tennis and the great weather in Charleston. Although a native of St. Louis, she has called Charleston home for the past 25 years.
